Timothy Amerson

Mr. Timothy Amerson currently serves as the Acting Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and as an Acting Associate Commissioner (DAC) for Operations in the Office of Information Security at the Social Security Administration (SSA) since August 2022. He is the winner of the 2024 Top 100 Information Security Professionals and nominated FedScoop Top 50 Federal Leadership.

Prior to SSA, Mr. Amerson served in several positions in the Department of Veteran Affairs, where he was a proven leader and was nominated for FedScoop 2021 Best Bosses in Feb IT. He began his career in IT at the customer support desk with the Department of Information Management in the Texas National Guard Joint Force Headquarters and advanced in leadership to become the Chief Technology Officer during his tenure.

Over Mr. Amerson’s 32-year career, some of his most notable military awards and commendations include: the Legion of Merit Medal, Bronze Star Medal; Meritorious Service Medal (4th Award) and multiple other federal and state awards. He has been recognized by several associations with the Silver Order of Thor Medallion (Cyber), Silver Order of Mercury Medallion (Signal), and Bronze Order of Saint George Medallion (Cavalry).

Mr. Amerson received a bachelor’s degree in computer information science, graduate of the Army Cyber Center of Excellence and Command & General Staff College, and has obtained over 30 professional certifications in Cybersecurity, IT, and Process/Project Management.
