Michael J. Mason is the Program Administer for the Department of the Air Force (DAF) Risk Management and Internal Control Program, Office of Management and Budget Circular number A-123 implementation lead. Mr. Mason is responsible for the timely and accurate submission of the Department of the Air Force Statement of Assurance to the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense, Comptroller for inclusion in the report that goes to Congress. He is also responsible for internal controls compliance and ensuring all aspects of the A-123 guidance are implemented throughout the Air Force and the Space Force.
Mr. Mason began his military career in 1981, serving twenty years in the United States Marine Corps. He transitioned into the commercial Defense sector in 2001, focused on the areas of portfolio management, financial and compliance aspects of system integration. In 2010 Mr. Mason joined the civilian federal workforce. Mr. Mason served as the compliance lead on the Defense Enterprise Accounting and Management System, where his responsibilities included ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, regulatory requirements, accounting policy and standards.
Prior to assuming his current position, Mr. Mason was deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan as a Ministry of Defense Advisor, where he advised the Afghan Army and Police force on program budgeting.
