John O'Grady

Acting Director, Digital Services Division

Department of Health and Human Services

As acting director for the HHS OIG’s Digital Services Division, John manages the mission and support services across the entire organization. The OIG is responsible for overseeing more than 100 DHHS programs, including Medicare and Medicaid and oversees more than 1 trillion dollars of federal funding. John provides the technology that the auditors, evaluators, lawyers, and investigators of the OIG rely on to collect and analyze data, conduct site visits, prosecute criminals and provide legal advice and guidance to the health care community.

Over the past year, John led a large-scale initiative to modernize all of the agency’s legacy applications—no small task, considering that the agency has more than 100 applications. As part of that effort, John also formulated a strategy to modernize the OIG’s development practices and technology infrastructure. He implemented agile development, DevOps methodologies and lean management practices while investing heavily in cloud services. He also placed a primary focus on user-centric development, better risk management, automation, and much more.

All of this was done to save taxpayers money and help auditors, investigators, and others do their jobs and positively impact people’s lives.
