John Lau

John Lau is the Senior Strategic IT Operations Advisor with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) headquartered in Alexandria, VA, where he leads the agency’s enterprise strategy to advance emerging technology including artificial intelligence, resiliency, and enablement of the agency’s mission delivery.

Mr. Lau has extensive experience in technology stacks across complex environments in both federal, private sector experience to enable technology adoption, culture shift, infrastructure, cloud, digital assets, generative AI, and AI/ML.

Mr. Lau began his career specializing in performance analysis of complex systems and subsequent discovery of his love of data visualization, out of the box thinking and enablement, which led to a career path in connecting technology and people. His efforts in enablement of change transformation, strategic planning, and talent development has resulted in his organization’s ability to realize rapid and sustained growth of business value.

Notable achievements include establishing USPTO’s first public cloud enterprise platform, DOC SaaS platform for inter-agency communications, and implementation of automation in reducing agency security risks.

Mr. Lau is also a Federal Executive Coach and Strength Coach, developing both individual and group coaching programs that enabled individual and executive leaders to transformational growth.
